The Academy Adventures is a weekly Mutants and Masterminds game located in Raleigh NC, USA. We play most Tuesday nights from 7pm to 11pm or so (we usually dine, while playing). The game has been played since April 2006. The story is set in the present day in the fictional medium sized city of Franklin "Freedom City" NC which is located on the Pamlico Sound of North Carolina. In this fictional world, pretty much everything else is the same, except for the existence of this city, supporting infrastructure and the depth of the Pamlico Sound to support sea trade. The very first known SUPERS, beings with supernatural powers have started to appear here, just after THE EVENT. The EVENT has not be very explained by anyone, and both the scientific, supernatural, and paranormal schools have laid claim to it.
The Game has a tone somewhere between the light hearted style (Four Color Silver Age) and a grim and gritty (Iron Age) game. It is similar in tone and violence to the X-men of the mid 80s.
Unlike traditional games, this game includes some mystery powers. So the player may or may not be aware of the full extent of his or her character's powers or abilities. The characters begin the game with no powers (but may suggest the kind of character they wish), so their first abilities are Mystery Powers. Then once they discover their abilities, they can develop those through play using Extra Effort and Hero Points.

CURRENT OPENINGS
None at present, but will accept applications for future consideration.
We are looking for interesting people to join our adventures. They should be independent adults, with their own transportation, available for weekly play. Attendanding the game ought to be a priority. Experience in Mutants and Masterminds, the D20 system, or role-playing in general, are NOT requirements. Some familiarity with the comic-book genre would be useful.
We are looking for people we'd like to know even if we didn't game (and hopefully to make friends of you too). Smart, witty, knowledgeable, educated, active, and who appreciate that this is a cooperative game, not a chance to impress each other with our rules knowledge, luck, or success in combat. We do use the rules, although we are not rules lawyers, and players who feel constrained by rules based games, might prefer another game.
In terms of full disclosure, we are five white middle-class, straight guys. And while we have no litmus test for prospective players, we would like a diverse group in terms of ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality. Differences are good, and we will give preference to people different from us.
