THE ARSENAL ADVENTURES

Seven children of Lyr-Amun attended her funeral and took her body to a place in the grand cemetary of De Shamod next to three husbands which she outlived. They led the gathering of mourners through the ritual of passage. There were condolences and gifts from the other households, the various speakers Sibbecai, Litorian. Human, Faen all spoke glowingly of her. Afterward the children gathered at the palace and had the customary tea with the Lady Protector, Ia Thordani, they said the sort of pleasantries normally said at such events. The children differed to their brother, Kur-Islun, the eldest, as was proper, as it was expected that he would soon take over their mother's position. Then the Lady Protector left without a sign anything was out of the norm.
The next day word spread, the Lady Protector had ordered that the family's holdings in De Shamod would not be divided equally, nor would they go to Kur-Islun, they were to be administered by Lady's nephew, Osara-Monn instead. Monn had long been a critic of the family, and the blow was not taken lightly by the family. They made a formal protest, they called their allies, but everywhere their efforts were met with little more than sympathy. The family retreated to its three major holdings scattered far outside De Shamod: the sea cliff hugging fortress of Bara-Tel, the woodland lodge of Elsemeren, and the battle keep of Volga-Run in the plains of the sword grass. Deciding that they needed to consolidate their power and enhance their positions, they began to form a plan. They pulled the old family maps and found a few other holdings, or at least places they could make claim to, in hopes they could regain some of their once considerable power and respect.
One of the old holdings on the edge of the Bitter Peaks in the thirteenth Stewardship, was an old keep wrestled from the Dramojh in the great war, dubbed Ar-Ensul in Giant, nicknamed "Arsenal" in the common tongue. This once solid structure, now pocked and crumbling, stands atop a karst straddling the Diamond Run, a tributary of the great Ghost Wash River some hundred miles upriver of De Shamod. The hills and mountains of this region were once a great source of crystals, gems, and precious metals. However, the cost of retrieving this wealth was itself quite great: trolls, chorim, rock apes, and other dangers made the rocky terrain too costly to exploit.
However, dire times call for dire solutions, the family agreed that the ancient keep should be rebuilt and the mines reopened, the selected their youngest brother, Graal-Potak, an imposing figure standing over eleven feet high to face the challenge. Technically the regional steward is Ui-Narath, but she focuses her attention on the Harrowdeep, the Faen and the arts. So far away, Ar-Ensul gets little attention. One can expect little help from the regional authorities.
Potak was given leave to select a small group who would take him to the fallen keep, recapture it, and serve as the core of his advisors. He chose, the giant Vor-Tarn, a Champion of Justice; Elidia Talat, a faen Runethane; Linneaus , a human Unfettered-Raccoon Totem Warrior; and Ferrethryn, a litorian MageBlade to assist him in this mission.

  GUIDE MATERIALS

Beginnings...

The party finds itself leaving their home in the great city of De Shamod for the wilderness and ancient keep of Ar-Ensul. Provisioned, and equiped with a rough map, they set sail up the Ghostwash River. Its gentle currents tug at them, but the strong valled winds lift them up the hundred miles to the tributary known as the Diamond Run. From there, they must press on without sail.
