Rules Modifications

  1. The Magic System for this Campaign is the Elements of Magic by E.N. Publishing. My homebrewed rules and errata are listed here.

  2. Hit points will heal at a rate of level/hour of light activity (2/level/rest). However, damage from critical hits, sneak attacks, favored enemy bonuses, damage done to a helpless opponent, and some spells do not heal normally (healing at a rate of 1hp/level/day of light activity, 2hp/level/day rest) or by magical healing. The consequences for going below 0-hps are the same a normal (this is real damage not simply subdual damage). Cure spells function normally healing the stated amount of damage.

  3. Alignments. The nine alignments will all fall within what we would consider normal civil behavior. The following guidelines indicate the sorts of behaviors one can expect from the alignments.

Lawful - The kind of person who stops at a red light on a deserted highway when it is safe to cross. Someone interested in plans and rules.

Neutral - One who would follow the law without really thinking about it, but might break the law if it seemed necessary to accomplish something valued.

Chaotic - One who cares little for laws and rules, she might even enjoy breaking them. A rebel, spontaneous. Not very trustworthy.

Good - the sort of person who gives to charity despite being in need herself- Compassionate.

Neutral - willing to help out, but more considered about immediate family and friends, less likely to risk danger for strangers.

Evil - typically only helps others if she can get something out of it. Self-centered. There are extremes of these alignments, especially among the fallen (former astrals), but just because someone is chaotic evil does not mean that they will slit the throats of their best friends or even strangers.

These basic alignments are spread out fairly evenly throughout the population. The local baker might be chaotic evil because is takes some advantage of famine to raise prices. The town guard might be lawful good because he won¼t open the gates past dark, but he will send food and blankets out to those trapped outside after curfew.

  4. Minor rule change - all racial weapons are treated as martial weapons to that race (exotic weapons to all other races). So halfling kama would be a martial weapon to Halflings (free to fighters, ranger, barbarians, monks, and costing a feat to others).

  5. Aasimars and Tieflings (and all other Fallen) are very noticeable on Malaan. They cannot generally pass for humans. They suffer -2 to all charisma based skills (in addition to any other racial modifiers) when dealing with humanoids due to the general suspicion in which they are held.

  6. The only planes other than the Prine Material is the Ethereal and Elemental (in my game the Elemental realms are on the Ethereal Plane). Creatures formerly of the outer plane (Demons, Devils, Slaad) are now native creatures (of the class Fallen (formerly outsiders), andtypes specific to their sub-class (devils, demons, etc..)).The Celestial and Fiendish sub-types can be summoned, but they are specific servants of some God (so do so with caution).Spells that grant travel to the outer planes simple do not work.

  7. New General Feat - Cross Class Training. Allows a character to learn and progress in any non-exclusive cross class skill as though it were a class skill. Thus skills which would normally be learned at a rate of one rank per two skill points can now be learned at one rank per skill point. Also, the maximum ranks increase to character level +3.

  8. New Priestly Magic - Clerical Magic can be invoked in a variety of ways.Clerical Mages may take the Domain medium Magic Boon to reduce the mana cost of elements in their religion's Domain (-1MP). Gods and their servants have access to certain spell-lists (spell-caster levels). Also clerical mana can be generated by pious prayer and meditation. That energy can be used by anyone who becomes the focus of that energy (typically a priest) using special rules. See Religion Ex Apotheosis for details.
